The Highwomen
FRIDAY JULY 26, 2019

The Highwomen is Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby.

Newport Festivals Foundation has made a donation on behalf of The Highwomen to She Is The Music. In January 2018, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative released a study on the music industry revealing a six-year low for female creators in popular music. She Is The Music actively seeks to close this gap by increasing opportunity and visibility for women currently working in music, as well as developing the next generation of women to join the industry and seek leadership roles. With this generous donation, She Is The Music will be able to host more of their successful all-female writing camps, as well as help fund forthcoming mentorship program.

Quote from the Highwomen

She Is The Music is a wonderful organization that supports and encourages women in all aspects of the music industry. It’s important to us that we have more safe spaces to create and learn. It’s important to us that we celebrate one another’s work and make more room for anyone that identifies as a woman.

Quote from Co-Founder, Sam Kirby Yoh

We are so thankful to The Highwomen and Newport Festivals Foundation for their generous support of She Is The Music. This commitment enables us to fund and continue growing our programs, all of which are designed to drive equality, inclusivity and opportunity for women – both those who are working in music today, as well as future generations. This is an excellent example of women creators helping one another succeed and the impact we can achieve by working together to make a difference.
