“Jim James is the epitome of ‘Folk Family.’ A fan as well as a festival favorite, Jim has captivated audiences at the Newport Folk Festival over the years while leading My Morning Jacket, performing solo as Yim Yames and as part of Monsters of Folk and the Woody Guthrie tribute band, New Multitudes. Whenever he’s at the Fort, he doesn’t leave after his set; instead he seeks out collaborations thereby adding to the festival’s legacy of one of a kind performances. In addition to sitting in with his friends, he can be seen throughout the day walking from stage to stage simply to hear the music.
With each visit, Jim personifies and enhances the spirit of the Newport Folk Festival, which honors past, present and future icons of the ever-changing folk scene. For this reason, he was an easy choice to select as a member of the Newport Folk Festival Board of Advisors. And, this isn’t a one-sided love. Jim says that the festival ‘… sweeps me off to a special land of music and reverie where all things are possible.’ It’s hard to find a stronger supporter than this talented and creative musician.
With the release of his debut full-length solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God, Jim is poised to continue his path as a folk-rock troubadour extraordinaire. It is my pleasure to announce Jim James’ return to HIS Newport Folk Festival.”
