I love the Newport Folk Festival: my favorite bands play there, and I’m introduced to fantastic new (to me) artists every year. I know I’m not alone in trusting the festival organizers – it’s why early bird tickets sell out each year.
Since seeing Houndmouth for the first time last year, they’ve since moved to my list of favorite bands. I’m excited to announce that they will be returning to the Newport Folk Festival in 2014. Those who witnessed their fantastic set at Ft. Adams last year, or are otherwise already familiar with Houndmouth’s music, will undoubtedly be thrilled too.
However, I’m really writing this introduction for those who haven’t yet discovered this band. The NFF team makes it easy to explore artists via the rolling announcements. To pass the winter months, dig into Houndmouth’s debut LP “From the Hills Beneath the City”. You’ll find gritty, fascinating lyrics telling stories with a motley mix of interesting characters. You’ll hear fantastic harmonies. You’ll detect a wide range of influences new and old. The true sign of a great album? I bet your favorite song will change at least three times between now and July.
Most importantly, catch their set at Newport this year and see their fantastic live show. The songs you now love will take on an added rawness and swagger. I’ll be joining you for what will be one of the highlights of the 2014 festival.
