IF I HAD A SONG
SUNDAY JULY 28, 2019
This set will surround hate, and force it to surrender. In what would have been our co-founder's 100th year, we could think of no better way to celebrate Pete's spirit in a time where we need each other now more than ever, than to do so with a celebratory sing-along. We're stronger when we sing together, so we intend to do just that for this year's festival finale.
On behalf of the guests performing in this set and the Seeger family, Newport Festivals Foundation has made a donation to: Beacon Advocates for Music (B.A.M.)
B.A.M., together with Beacon Arts and Education Foundation (BAEF), will create folk guitar and choral workshops in which local folk artists come to Beacon High School to work with students in guitar and Chorus classes. B.A.M. will also invite artists to participate in civics class conversations relating to the role PeteSeeger played in the local and larger community through music.
Quote from Rebecca Correllus, Co-President, B.A.M.
We are very grateful to Newport Festivals Foundation for the generous grant to provide music education enrichment to the students of the Beacon City School District. Beacon Advocates for Music (B.A.M.), together with BAEF, will be utilizing the funds to procure local folk artists to lead student workshops in guitar and vocal skills. We hope to integrate the work into our annual Calico Ball, in honor of our hometown folk music hero, Pete Seeger.
